A very Queens/Brooklyn/Governor’s Island weekend

Many would consider it sacrilege, but in late August we made the long trek North for a very NYC weekend which did not include any time in Manhattan. We stayed in Jackson Heights (thank you to the dear friends who let us cat-sit! So very, very glad that the cat did not have a heart attack from Milo shrieking every time it moved), lured many of Talia’s friends to Gantry State Park and then off Manhattan again to Governor’s Island the next day, and finished our weekend with a lovely sunset dinner at the exclusive Red Hook-Fairway (Fairway is a local grocery chain …).

And we finally, finally made it to Fete Paradiso. A vintage 19th century French carnival complete with children’s rides. Practically perfect.

And Fete Paradiso! A tremendous thanks to Lila and Ada for making the trek to the far end of Manhattan and then a short boat ride further. And to Linda whose photos of her own visit convinced us we had to go …

And a few more rides before everyone fell asleep on the boat back to Hunter’s Point:
