Damascus, VA

Damascus is apparently a very popular mountain biking destination in the Virginia mountains. We found ourselves there on Labor Day weekend as a way to break up the drive to Asheville, and eventually Durham. We stayed in a lovely hotel overlooking a waterfall.

In a lovely little 1950s town:

But one of the best things about Damascus was driving around (trying to find dinner …) and enjoying the scenery. We even found a delightful old school which had been occupied by a herd of pigs. Henry of course refused to enter (possibly because of the large no trespassing sign), but when we checked into the hotel I asked about the school and the hotel owner made a few phone calls, and voila!
